Citizens Government Academy class gets start date

Graduates will form second alumni group

Giving citizens an inside look at the workings of municipal government and, in turn, asking them to use this knowledge to improve their community is the principle behind Little Elm’s Citizens Government Academy.

The next CGA class starts on Wednesday, Sept. 6 and will meet every Wednesday evening for eight weeks. Applications to be part of the class are being accepted and can be accessed online at

“Our goal is two-fold,” says Town Manager Matt Mueller. “First is to give citizens a deeper understanding of how their local government goes about its day-to-day business. And, second, we want to encourage these citizens to become more involved in local activities thereby helping make us the best municipality we can be.”

Class members, confined to 20 individuals, will undergo extensive briefings on virtually every aspect of the Town of Little Elm and its services during the Wednesday evening sessions. The sessions begin at 6 p.m. and conclude at 9 p.m. with dinner provided. The CGA is patterned after the highly-popular Citizens Fire Academy and the Citizens Police Academy.

Departmental overviews, presented by directors and other staff members, will be provided each week, culminating with a question and answer session. These will continue until the full complement of departments is cycled through the class.

While the majority of classes will be held in either Town Hall or the Public Safety Building, some classes will be held at on-site facilities away from the central complex.

“Once this class is concluded, we will have two alumni groups made up of people who will be familiar with the inner workings of their local government and be in a position to contribute to our progress and continuous improvement,” added Mueller.

Applicants should be residents of Little Elm with a desire to learn more about the Town and its service platform, and have a commitment to its development and enhancement.

A graduation ceremony will be conducted at the end of the class period and members will be presented their certificates of completion at the Nov. 7 Town Council meeting.
