Drive an electric vehicle and suffer from "range anxiety"?

You won't have to any longer if you're in or near Little Elm, Texas.

The Little Elm Town Council approved a grant for the installation of four Level 2 electric vehicle (EV) chargers, which provide about 25 miles of range per hour (RPH).

These chargers are at a higher level than Level 1 EV chargers, which only provide about 4 miles RPH.

According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Texas ranked fourth in electric vehicle sales and registrations in 2019, with 28,400 registered electric vehicles over 11,764 in 2018.

"The increased interest in electric vehicles across the state makes adding charging stations make sense," said Little Elm Councilman Nick Musteen.

The EV charge stations will be installed at The Cove at The Lakefront™, the Town's 42,000-square-foot aquatic park, slated to open in early 2021.

"The location of these stations in The Lakefront District is ideal for EV users who live in Little Elm or are visiting the destination district for the day over the weekend," Musteen said.

The Alternative Fueling Facilities Program grant primarily covers financing of the EV charging stations at The Cove™.

Tesla will soon begin building electric trucks at its new Austin factory, which will be available in 2021. Other highly-anticipated fully electric vehicles include the Ford F-150, the Mustang Mach-E, and the Jeep Wrangler 4Xe.

With EV usage anticipated to increase in coming years, the Town has also updated its standards on certain developments to include infrastructure to support the future installation of charging stations for the convenience of its residents, visitors, and other stakeholders.
