Mandy Duncan took to twitter and tagged Little Elm High School after spending half the day at the Special Olympics track meet Thursday. "Shout out to all the volunteers from @LittleElmHS at the #LESpecialOlympics today! They are great kids with big hearts! Our #AubreyProud athletes loved their new friends! #thankyou #greatday."
It's become a yearly tradition in Little Elm ISD to invite student athletes from neighboring school district to come together and celebrate, overcome obstacles, and win. D3 Salon, a Little Elm business, posted on their Facebook page, they were closed "so we can volunteer at the LEISD Speical Olympics."
This year, more than 200 LEHS students volunteered to be an athlete's buddy. Approximately 170 adult volunteers helped with the opening ceremony, manage all the field events, and hand out medals at the award tents. Students athletes from Aubrey, Denton, Argyle, Lake Dallas, Krum, and Little Elm spent the day competing in various track and field events.
