Drinking Water Supply Safe After Unexpected NTMWD Release

Document (1)

LITTLE ELM, TX (Jan 2, 2019) On Wednesday, December 26, 2018, the North Texas Municipal Water District experienced a release of not fully-treated domestic wastewater from their Wilson Creek Regional Wastewater Plant in Allen, Texas, as a result of a lightning-related power outage.

As a result of the outage, the treatment process was not completed, and nearly 28,000 gallons of wastewater spilled at the site, of which some reached the far northwest area of Lake Lavon. In response, NTMWD deployed booms to isolate and clean up the affected water.

Drinking water provided by the NTMWD is treated and safe for consumption.

The Town of Little Elm receives their water from the NTMWD and assures the public that the water supply is safe. For more information about the events associated with the spill, please visit NTMWD here.

NTMWD crews have continued to visit the site since the incident to monitor the area. NTMWD has also hired a third-party expert to visit and assess the site to determine if any further mitigation is needed.
