The District is moving forward with its plan to improve and renovate athletic facilities at Little Elm High School. What was defined as being a part of Phase I are four different elements to include football, baseball, softball, and tennis facilities. These athletic facility improvements were included in the November 2017 Bond.
During Monday's board meeting, school board members approved the scope of work and the budget of $8.48 million of bond money that will be used for:
1. Football/track at LEHS location
renovate and replace the track
add new shot and discus
replace and renovate field turf
add new bleachers and press box
storage building and a new scoreboard
renovate and replace the turf
replace homerun fence
add new covered bleachers and press box
add new covered bullpen/batting cages
renovate existing storage areas
add secured area at the rear dugout
create a storage area
4. Concourse Areas
provide a level, hard surface walking area with terraced retaining walls
new concessions (with A/C), restrooms, storage building
replace/revise fencing throughout the park
extend WiFi and power throughout
resurface existing tennis courts
adjust fencing/replace screens
"Any time you get a chance to improve facilities for students, the benefits are tremendous. Not only does it lead to better performance on and off the field, but it creates a sense of pride for their sport and for the school they represent," said Daniel Gallagher, superintendent. "Our students and coaches deserve the very best we can afford to give them."
The work begins in November and is projected to be completed by spring. The timeline of the projects is subject to change pending weather.
