Little Elm High School Head Basketball Coach, Rusty Segler, has had quite a year with his Varsity basketball team. He told the Board of Trustees at Monday’s meeting about how the team accomplished many firsts in the history of the high school basketball program. The Lobo Varsity Basketball team was recognized for the stellar season they had, "This team rejuvenated me. I had more fun this year than I can recall in my 36 years of coaching," said Segler.
Caught by surprise, Coach Segler was given a tremendous honor as Dr. Lowell Strike, superintendent, presented the coach with the District’s highest award, the Triple E award. "This award is not handed out every day," said Dr. Strike. "I present it to someone who has something to do with taking the Little Elm Lobos and bringing positive attention to the District in a significant way."
Dr. Strike and Coach Segler go way back to 1995. Segler coached Dr. Strike’s son, who was a junior member of the Varsity Basketball team at A&M Consolidated High School. "We didn’t personally know each other, but he coached my son. What I remember about Coach is he always talked about how there is more to basketball than the game. It is the chance to develop young people to grow to be great citizens. He still believes in that and has brought it to Little Elm High School 22 years later," said Dr. Strike.
The Triple E Award stands for Engage, Equip, and Empower which are three keywords pulled from our District mission.
