Register your neighborhood or organization to host a block party during National Night Out on Oct. 3!
LITTLE ELM (August 23, 2017) Little Elm Police are now accepting registrations for neighborhoods to add their annual get-to-know-your-first-responders block parties to the annual National Night Out schedule.
“On Tuesday, October 3, police and fire personnel will take advantage of the National Night Out block parties to meet as many people as possible,” says Little Elm Police Sergeant Marcus Maxie, head of the department’s Community Services section. “The block parties and cookouts also provide great opportunities for neighbors to get out, meet and greet each other, exchange contact information and pledge to fight crime.”
Greater understanding between neighborhood residents and first responders is the primary goal of National Night Out, where casual conversations and informal gatherings provide the perfect setting for interaction. On top that, police and fire personnel learn about any unique conditions in neighborhoods, and residents develop deeper relationships with emergency personnel in a relaxed setting.
First responders will be out between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Oct. 3, visiting those block parties, cookouts, street gatherings and chat circles that register.
“Neighborhoods planning a block party or gathering should alert us by registering the event,” said Maxie. “That virtually guarantees that fire and police make an appearance, but it also gives us the name of a contact person in the event we need to communicate with the residents in the future.”
Registration can be accomplished by visiting www.littleelm.org and clicking on “Police” under “Departments.” From there, to “Reports and Forms” and “Printable Forms.” Planners can download or print the Neighborhood Block Party Application Form. Deadline to register block parties is Friday, Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. The deadline allows public safety personnel to ensure there are enough barricades for the neighborhood events as well as goodie bag giveaways. As usual, the deposit for barricades, if any are needed, is waived, and while the requirement for 60 percent of resident signatures is also waived, a note or call to affected residents is strongly encouraged.
